EL RACO EXPERIENCE

TRAVELING BY AIR WITHIN AND OUTSIDE CHILE

Required documentation for adults and minors

Traveling with the correct documentation is essential to avoid inconveniences at the airport, during boarding, or at immigration controls.

In this document, you will find a general guide to the documents that may be requested for flights within Chile, trips to Rapa Nui, and international travel, for both adult passengers and minors.

Final acceptance of documents will always depend on the review carried out by the airline, immigration authorities, and the corresponding agencies. For this reason, we recommend always traveling with original documents, valid when applicable, and with backup copies available in both physical and digital formats.

This section applies to adult passengers taking flights within Chilean territory.

1.1. Chilean passengers

For flights within Chile, Chilean passengers must present one of the following documents:

  1. a) Valid identity card.
  2. b) Valid passport.
  3. c) Proof of Chilean identity card application in process, issued by the Civil Registry and Identification Service.

1.2. In case of a lost, stolen, or expired identity card

If your identity card has been lost, stolen, or is expired, it is recommended that you obtain as soon as possible the proof of identity card application in process issued by the Civil Registry.

As an additional backup, you may carry:

  • Police report from Carabineros or PDI, in case of loss or theft.
  • Another document with a photograph, such as a passport, driver’s license, TNE, or another similar document.
  • Proof of application for a new identity card, if it has already been processed.

Important: a police report or an additional document with a photograph does not necessarily replace a valid identity card or proof of an identity card application in process. Final acceptance will depend on the airline and the corresponding controls.

1.3. Foreign passengers residing in Chile

Foreign passengers residing in Chile must travel with their valid Chilean identity card for foreigners.

We also recommend carrying:

  • Valid passport.
  • Immigration document associated with their residence, if applicable.
  • Valid certificate, extension, renewal, or immigration resolution, especially if the trip involves leaving or entering the country.

1.4. Foreign passengers with an expired Chilean identity card

On flights within Chile, foreign passengers with an expired Chilean identity card may travel as long as they can prove that they have valid immigration support documentation.

This support documentation may be, as applicable:

  • Valid certificate of residence application in process.
  • Extension of residence application in process.
  • Valid renewal.
  • Document issued by the National Migration Service confirming that their situation is in the process of resolution.

We recommend carrying these documents in both physical and digital formats.

1.5. Foreign passengers in transit through Chile or traveling as tourists

Foreign passengers who are in Chile as tourists must carry:

  1. a) Valid passport or identity document valid according to their nationality.
  2. b) Single Migration Card, TUM, or tourist card issued by the PDI at the time of entry into Chile.

The TUM certifies temporary stay in the country and may be requested at immigration controls.

1.6. In case of loss of the Single Migration Card, TUM

If you are a tourist in Chile and lose your Single Migration Card, TUM, or tourist card, you must immediately review the current instructions from PDI Virtual or consult directly with the PDI, depending on your route of departure from the country.

This procedure is available for foreign nationals who entered Chile as tourists through an authorized border crossing.

To request guidance or a duplicate, it is usually necessary to have an image or photograph of the passport, DNI, or identity document used to enter the country.

In the case of minors, the request must be made by the father, mother, or legally responsible adult.

Important: if you lose your TUM, do not leave it until the last minute. Review the official instructions before leaving the country to avoid inconveniences at immigration controls.

This section applies to minors up to 17 years of age traveling within Chilean territory.

2.1. Identification documents

Minors must present one of the following documents:

  1. a) Identity card.
  2. b) Original birth certificate or one issued by the Civil Registry, with visible RUN.

2.2. If the minor’s identity card is expired

If the minor’s identity card is expired, it is recommended to carry:

  • Birth certificate with visible RUN.
  • Proof of identity card renewal, if it has already been processed.
  • Expired identity card as an additional backup, if available.

2.3. Minors traveling accompanied by their parents or by a responsible adult

For flights within Chile, a notarized authorization to leave the country is not required, since no international border is being crossed.

However, if the minor is traveling with an adult who is not their father, mother, or legal guardian, it is recommended to carry additional support documentation, such as:

  • Simple or notarized authorization from the parents or guardians.
  • Copy of the identity document of the father, mother, or guardian who authorizes the trip.
  • Contact details of the parents or guardians.
  • Minor’s birth certificate.

This recommendation helps avoid inconveniences during the trip, especially in transfers, accommodations, or situations that require proof of responsibility for the minor.

Rapa Nui is considered a special territory, so all passengers must meet specific entry requirements, whether they are Chilean, foreign, adults, or minors.

3.1. Mandatory documentation for all passengers

To travel to Rapa Nui, passengers must have:

  1. a) Valid identity card, valid passport, or proof of identity card application in process, as applicable.
  2. b) Non-transferable return ticket, with a date no later than 30 days from the outbound flight.
  3. c) Reservation at accommodation authorized by Sernatur or an invitation letter from a person belonging to the Rapa Nui people or another authorized person, as applicable.
  4. d) Completed Single Entry Form, FUI.

3.2. Presenting the FUI

The FUI confirmation email must be presented to the Chilean Investigative Police, PDI, at the airport or port of departure.

If the FUI is not presented when required, the passenger may have inconveniences when boarding.

3.3. Maximum length of stay

The maximum length of stay for tourists in Rapa Nui is 30 calendar days, according to the current regulations applicable to the special territory.

3.4. Minors traveling to Rapa Nui

Minors must also meet the corresponding entry requirements for Rapa Nui.

In the case of children under 2 years of age traveling with their parents, they may present a birth certificate as an identification document for the flight.

However, this does not mean that they are exempt from the entry requirements for Rapa Nui. Depending on the case, the following must also be considered:

  • Completed FUI.
  • Return ticket.
  • Accommodation authorized by Sernatur or valid invitation letter.
  • Documentation of the responsible adult.

3.5. Minors traveling with one parent or with another adult

If the minor is traveling with only one of their parents, it is recommended to carry a notarized authorization from the parent who is not traveling.

If the minor is traveling with an adult who is not their father or mother, it is recommended to carry notarized authorization from both parents or legal guardians, as well as the birth certificate and copies of the corresponding identity documents.

This section applies to passengers leaving Chile for another country. Requirements may vary depending on the destination country, the passenger’s nationality, stopovers, the purpose of the trip, and current immigration regulations.

4.1. Documents according to destination country

For Chilean passengers, some countries in South America allow entry with a valid identity card in good condition, according to current agreements and the conditions of the destination country.

These include:

  • Argentina.
  • Bolivia.
  • Brazil.
  • Colombia.
  • Ecuador.

For this reason, the documentation required by the destination country, the airline, and the corresponding immigration authorities must always be verified before traveling.

4.2. Passport validity

Many countries require the passport to have a minimum validity of 6 months at the time of travel, entry, departure, or return, according to the regulations of each destination.

For this reason, we recommend checking the minimum validity required by the destination country and by any countries where there are stopovers.

  • Electronic travel authorization.
  • Mandatory insurance.
  • Health certificates or other specific documents.
  • Proof of accommodation, financial solvency, or onward ticket.

When a minor leaves Chile, additional documentation may be required depending on whom they are traveling with.

  • Minor’s valid identity card or passport, depending on the destination.
  • Birth certificate or family record book.
  • Identity documents of both parents.
  • Visa or additional documentation, if required by the destination country.

  • Original and three simple photocopies of the notarized authorization, as applicable.
  • Visa or additional documentation, if required by the destination country.

It is recommended to carry:

  • Minor’s valid identity card or passport, depending on the destination.

  • Notarized authorization from both parents or legal guardians.

  • Identity documents of the parents or legal guardians.
  • Visa or additional documentation, if required by the destination country.

Before arriving at the airport, carefully check that all passengers have the necessary documentation.

We recommend verifying:

  • Valid identity documents.
  • Passport, if applicable.
  • Visa or travel authorization, if applicable.
  • Immigration documents, if applicable.
  • Notarized permits for minors, if applicable.
  • Outbound and return tickets.
  • Accommodation reservations.
